We are looking for skilled and confident Skippers to navigate the historic waterways of Amsterdam. As a captain at Starboard Boats, you’ll play a crucial role in creating unforgettable journeys through the heart of the city while ensuring the safe and comfortable transport of our guests aboard one of our beautiful open sloops.
Beyond your navigation expertise, you’ll work alongside our hosts to share fascinating stories about Amsterdam’s rich history and vibrant culture. While our hosts serve delicious drinks, you’ll help bring the city to life for our guests, pointing out landmarks and hidden gems along the canals. This collaborative approach ensures our guests enjoy not just a boat ride, but a complete Amsterdam experience.

Tasks
- Starting and ending in various harbours in Amsterdam (ensuring the boats are well secured and ready for the day)
- Cruise the guests around during a public tour or private cruise
- Ensure the safety of guests and staff on board
- Tell stories about Amsterdam’s history and present
- Maintaining and checking the vessel and reporting any problems
- Collaborating closely with hosts and dock team as part of the team
Profile
- A valid boat klein Vaarbewijs 1 and 2 (Dutch inland boat license) , VHF radio certificate, Social Hygiene certification and experience in operating boats. OR are willing to obtain these.
- Knowledge of Amsterdam’s canals and regulations.
- Excellent communication skills and a customer-focused mindset.
- A team player who collaborates well with hosts and dock team to deliver a seamless experience.
- Are available to work at least one weekday and weekend day during high season.
