Meet the Team – Guy

Guy sailing our boat

What’s your name, where are you from and what do you do?

I’m Guy and I’m from Tel Aviv, Israel (although I was born here in Amsterdam). I’m a co-founder and Head of Sales.

What’s your favourite thing about working with Starboard Boats?

My favourite thing is the people that I work with. Although we work extremely hard, we also play hard, and I really enjoy my work.

What’s your perfect weekend in Amsterdam?

Friday

My perfect weekend in Amsterdam would start with an Amsterdam Pizza Cruise and some beers with my colleagues. After a few beers I like to head out to somewhere like Skate Café to meet with friends.

Saturday

I’m normally working on Saturdays but on the odd occasion that I’m free, I like to get out and explore as much of the city as possible! One of my favourite places to go is De Pijp, which is full of brilliant restaurants and bars. The thing I love about De Pijp is the wonderful mix of people that you find there and the laidback buzz – you’ll find everyone from locals enjoying a relaxed after-work drink, international students meeting up for a night out and everything in between. It’s a really cool neighbourhood and just a stone’s throw from the city centre. There’s also a great place called Bardak in this area, which serves up some fantastic Tel Aviv street food and is always my go-to place when I want a taste of home! They also serve some delicious drinks, including an absolute favourite of mine from back home in Israel – Arak!

For more weekend drinks, I really like the Speakeasy-style bars that are dotted around Amsterdam. Door 74 is an absolute favourite of mine, tucked away at a secret location (call them for the address and info – +31(0)6 34 04 51 22!) and serves some great cocktails. When I feel like listening to some techno, I love heading over to Radio Radio in Westerpark. This new bar situated in West Amsterdam, an up-and-coming area which has a more laidback vibe. Radio Radio is really music-focussed and always draws a great crowd. If I’m planning a bigger night out with some friends or looking for live music then I love places like Melkweg or Paradiso.

Sunday

On a Sunday, I like to have a more relaxed day and head out on my scooter. Cycling is great but with my limited time, I find that a scooter is the best way to get around in and out of Amsterdam – if the sun is shining I love to scoot off to the beach at Zandvoort or explore a bit of the countryside (and although this is great on a scooter, you can always go on a tour with one of our partners!). If I’m off, I try and have a chilled-out evening at home so I’m ready to rumble first thing Monday morning!

Top Amsterdam Tip

The best way to see the city is undoubtedly by boat. I get a real kick out of showing people the incredible beauty of our city – and when they can do it from the water with a beer in hand on a Booze Cruise Amsterdam is even better!
